hello i am a hidden space!
The Mai Tai, a tropical libation synonymous with Polynesian escapism, has a rich history that traces its origins to the mid-20th century and the tiki culture. Created by Victor "Trader Vic" Bergeron, the founder of Trader Vic's, in the 1940s, the Mai Tai became an instant classic. Bergeron crafted the cocktail with a blend of aged Jamaican rum, Martinique rhum agricole, lime juice, orange liqueur, and orgeat syrup. Its name is said to have originated from the exclamation "Maita'i roa ae!" which means "Out of this world— the best!" in Tahitian. Despite a historical rivalry over its invention with Donn Beach of Don the Beachcomber, Trader Vic's Mai Tai recipe became iconic and is celebrated for its balance of flavours and the escapism it encapsulates, making it a staple of tiki bars and cocktail culture worldwide.
