In this Bolivian tradition, the skulls of departed loved ones are cherished and brought out on November 8th each year. Symbolically, the skulls are taken to the cemetery, where they are offered tequila and sometimes even cigarettes, as Bolivians believe this act immortalizes the deceased and provides protection against malevolent spirits.
