Nico’s operatic career has taken him to many parts of the world, where he developed a passion for discovering new and intriguing foods and beverages. His love for gin, combined with a newfound appreciation for Persimmon (Kaki), inspired the creation of KAKO Gin—a blend that merges these unique flavours while preserving the essence of his beloved Maltese Islands. The name "KAKO" is a play on words derived from the Mediterranean southern region dialects for the singular noun of Kaki, perfectly reflecting the rich and succulent Persimmons sourced from the Mediterranean that form the heart of this gin. After extensive trial runs, Nico partnered with some of Europe’s leading gin distillers to develop a recipe that is clear, concise, fresh, fruity, zesty, and sweet, all with a touch of Maltese panache. The gin’s leading flavour comes from a balanced blend of Juniper and Kaki, with middle tones of Mediterranean Orange and Lemon peels, enhanced by Ginger and Angelica root, and subtle local floral notes. It is finished using a special vapour infusion method, adding two secret ingredients sourced from the vibrant Maltese islands, which gives it maximum flavour and an unmistakable character.
KAKO Gin is a versatile spirit, offering a fresh and vibrant profile with subtle sweet notes, establishing its original and inimitable tang. It can be enjoyed in various forms, either on its own or as part of a symphony of cocktails and mixes, both sweet and savoury. Nico prefers to drink his gin straight over a small bed of ice with a fresh wedge of lemon or orange. For those who prefer a fuller glass, KAKO Gin is best served with fresh orange juice or even peach juice for a delightful twist. This carefully crafted gin embodies the essence of Nico’s adventures and his deep connection to the Maltese Islands, offering a taste that sings as beautifully as Nico’s own operatic performances.
