The Aberfeldy Distillery is the only Scotch whisky distillery built by the Dewar family and was first planned in 1896 by the sons of John Dewar. Situated in the outskirts of Aberfeldy, in the heart of Highland Perthshire, the distillery's location was chosen for various reasons, including the necessity for more single malt whisky to incorporate into Dewar's highly successful brand of blended whisky. A pivotal factor in this decision was the presence of a natural water source in The Pitilie Burn, a small river that flows past the distillery into The River Tay. The gold-rich waters of the Burn continue to be utilised in the production of Aberfeldy whisky to this day.

At Aberfeldy, all the processes involved in crafting their distinctive spirit occur onsite, including the extended fermentation in larch washbacks and distillation in tall pot stills that overlook the scenic Perthshire hills. These meticulous processes contribute to the honeyed richness for which Aberfeldy whisky is celebrated. Although Aberfeldy has gained popularity as a single malt in its own right, it remains a vital component of Dewar's blend, imparting its signature heather honey flavour to America's best-selling Scotch whisky.
