The story of Drambuie began in 1745 when Bonnie Prince Charlie introduced a non-alcoholic blend of herbs and spices to British shores. This elixir, which he consumed daily for strength and vitality, eventually found its way to the MacKinnon clan as a token of the Prince's gratitude for their loyalty. Over the years, the recipe was entrusted to John Ross, who produced the liqueur on the Isle of Skye. In 1893, the name Drambuie was officially registered, and production relocated to Edinburgh under the guidance of Malcolm MacKinnon and Eleanor Ross. Despite enduring challenges such as wars and Prohibition, Drambuie persevered and became an enduring brand.
In 2014, the legacy of Drambuie passed from one family-owned company to another as William Grant & Sons acquired the brand. The recipe has been closely guarded and kept secure at a blending facility near Glasgow, with only three individuals possessing its knowledge. One of them, a fifth-generation descendant of founder William Grant, personally oversees the blending of each batch of Drambuie essence. This acquisition ensured the continuation of Drambuie's rich history and the preservation of its unique and cherished recipe for future generations to enjoy.
